Local politicians have paid tribute to an MP who has died after being stabbed in Essex.
Conservative MP Sir David Amess was killed while meeting constituents at a church in Leigh-on-Sea this afternoon.
Politicians from across the political spectrum have paid tribute to the 69-year-old who sadly lost his life.
Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman said he was "devastated" by the news.
He said: "Devastating news about David Amess. Literally the nicest, gentlest of colleagues. RIP".
West Worcestershire MP Harriet Baldwin said: "I am numb with grief and shock at this awful, awful news about a very dear colleague. Words cannot express how heartfelt are my condolences."
Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones said: "The worst possible news. He went into the House in the same year as my dad.
"Not only a brilliant constituency MP, David was kind and funny to everyone he met.
"Truly terrible day. Heartfelt condolences to his family."
