Council rejects housing scheme

Herefordshire Council has rejected plans to build three homes in a hamlet near the Welsh border.

Messrs Partridge wanted to build two bungalows and a house at Lemsford in Broad Oak near Ross-on-Wye.

However, Garway parish council objected to the scheme because it would be too close to a slurry lagoon and falls outside the village settlement boundary.

Some 11 eleven residents also objected raising concerns over the increase in traffic, lack of local services and overdevelopment in the hamlet.

While one supporter said bungalows are needed in the area and that the homes would support local businesses and that it would be proportionate to Broad Oak.

Planning officers recommended rejecting the scheme because it was outside the settlement boundary for Broad Oak and would go against the Garway neighbourhood development plan.

Ward Toni Fagan told today’s planning committee meeting that the hamlet was being overburdened with new houses.

She called on councillors to reject the scheme.

The committee decided to reject the plans by 13 votes and one abstention.
