Consultation on Magor Square traffic free measures

Residents are being asked for their views on plans to make a temporary traffic-free area in the centre of Magor permanent.

Monmouthshire County Council introduced temporary measures to create a traffic-free area on part of Magor Square in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is now holding a public consultation on whether these changes should be made permanent.

The views of residents will help decide whether the measures are removed, and the Square reverts to how it was before the pandemic, or if the traffic restrictions are made permanent.

A consultation document says: “We are now consulting on whether these changes should be made permanent, which would provide a traffic-free space in the heart of the village for use by the community.

“In the longer term, there may be an opportunity for a redesign of this area to create a more attractive public space.”

The council says the consultation is not related to licences which allow businesses to use the outside public space for tables and chairs.

It says it will be reviewing this at a later date, and that there are no plans to change the current arrangements before the consultation has concluded.

The consultation is open until Sunday, November 28.
