Police are appealing for information after a report concerning the safety of a person and their dog in Herefordshire.
A member of the public contacted police just after 10.30am today (Sunday, 11 June) after seeing an abandoned dog on an island by the River Wye, opposite Wilton Hall, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
The dog's behaviour on the larger northern island opposite the hall, indicated its owner had possibly entered the river and a short time later the dog also entered the river.
Police searches are ongoing to trace both the owner and the dog. West Midlands Fire & Rescue and the National Police Air Service are also assisting with the search.
The dog is described as a yellow Labrador Retriever and Airedale Terrier cross, wearing a red collar with a silver disc.
If you have any information which could help police please contact them on telephone 101 quoting reference 248s of 11 June 2017.
