35-home estate planned for town

Plans have been revealed to build up to 35 more houses next to a Herefordshire town.

Development consultancy Pegasus Group, which is spearheading attempts to build on a huge area southwest of Leominster, has also set up a public consultation website for seven acres of land beside the existing Greytree estate north of Ross-on-Wye.

According to landatgreytree.co.uk , Pegasus is acting on behalf of a group of local and national charities which have been gifted the land and now want to engage with the local community on how to develop it.

The plans “are not driven by the same commercial factors as a speculative housebuilder”, enabling “greater flexibility in the scale and layout of the development and the inclusion of a large area of publicly accessible open space”, along with “affordable homes to help meet local needs”, the website says.

Accessed from Second Avenue, currently a cul-de-sac, the scheme would comprise two-storey , two-, three- and four-bedroom, energy-efficient homes, including some to meet the needs of the elderly and less physically able.

Land on the west of the entrance to the estate would be kept as public open space, while an additional path would give access onto Brampton Road to the east, according to published plans.

Consultation via the website has ended.

Meanwhile Pegasus has also requested a “screening opinion” from Herefordshire Council (application 260053) on whether a full environmental impact assessment (EIA) will be required to support the eventual proposal. A decision on this is due by January 30.

An application for planning permission, providing more details of the scheme, is expected shortly after.
