6,000 households in Monmouth could lose water supplies

Welsh Water have confirmed the Mayhill Water Treatments Works have been closed after staff were told to evacuate.

This means that some Monmouth households will lose water supply at some point today (estimates suggest that 6,000 households will be affected).

Welsh Water has asked customers in Monmouth Town Centre, Osbaston, Wyesham, Manson, Overmonnow, The Kymin and Kings Fee to reduce their water use until further notice.

Welsh Water are providing tankers of water and will set up three bottled water stations in the town today. MCC is providing a list of vulnerable customers so Welsh Water can prioritise those people.

Welsh Water confirm: “To maintain supplies, we have storage tanks in place and also tankering water into the network using lorries. This will help maintain supplies but we have to prepare for all eventualities and setting-up bottled water stations just in case supplies start to drop off. We have contingency plans in place and will ensure bottled water is delivered to vulnerable customers.”
