Job title:                    Residential Support Officer 

                                                           

Reporting to:           Residential Support Manager

 

Hours:                     Average 37 hrs per week over a three week shift pattern, term time only: Job share considered.

Fixed term contract for 12 months

Starting salary:       Full time salary £17,710 Pro-rata: £14,908: 0.8418 contract

Job purpose:

Under the direction of the Residential Support Manager to provide a high level of holistic support to students within the halls of residence that promotes student achievement during their residential placement on campus.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Fulfil staffing rota requirements ensuring student support needs and Health and safety requirements are met and entitlement to residential provision is delivered
  • Act as Linkworker to a designated list of students ensuring:
  • Regular contact and the delivery of the personal and social development profile framework (Life Links Programme) and Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes.
  • Liaison with the independence and mobility team to ensure the transference of newly acquired skills within the residential environment.
  • Liaise with the academic tutor in order to support achievement and progression.
  • Plan and implement the delivery of individual Residential Plans.
  • Communication logs and profiles are completed in order to provide accurate data and information on achievement and distance travelled
  • Active participation in the student review process ensuring reports are provided in line with the reporting schedule and attendance at reviews when required.
  • Monitor the welfare of students and respond in a measured and proactive way to student personal and social development needs.
  • During evenings and weekends contribute to the planning and delivery of extended curriculum activities that provide social and leisure opportunities ensuring (if required) the College Policy for Out of College activities is adhered to.
  • Proactively support students to attend and engage fully with their educational programme and report any barriers to learning to the Residential Support Manager
  • To take responsibilities for Hall files being – current, secure, accessible and stored within the legal requirements.
  • To support students at mealtimes within the refectory environment.
  • To provide a robust handover of information to staff coming on duty.
  • Record all formal and informal contact with students to ensure accurate assessment of development of skills and distance travelled.
  • Support the coordination of Student Hall Committees and other student representative groups within the college.
  • Liaise with the medical team to identify and respond to students medical needs which may include support to attend medical appointments
  • To be the primary contact for Residential Support Managers to meet Student satisfaction requirements by responding to complaints / feedback and actioning improvement plans.
  • Monitor report and respond to Health and safety concerns and to communicate actions to Residential Support Manager.
  • Daily monitoring and responding to food hygiene issues.
  • Contribute to an environment where all staff, visitors and students conduct themselves in an acceptable way.  To recognise personal responsibility towards campus conduct and set an example of directly challenging any unacceptable behaviour on campus.

Job purpose:

The Nurse under the direction of the Wellbeing and Medical Support Manager is responsible for facilitating and delivering a high quality medical and health promotion services to all students at the college.  

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the NMC code of practice provide a high quality healthcare service to students and promote a positive approach to health.
  • To ensure all students individual medical needs are met and communicated internal and external as appropriate.
  • Commitment to working to a flexible rota which includes evening and weekend work.
  • Monitoring, responding and coordinating students’ health care needs on a daily basis
  • To use professional knowledge to assess individual student medical risks and support requirements ensuring this information is recorded and communicated to appropriate staff.
  • To be pro active in supporting the development of individual student medical/support plans.  
  • To liaise with external health professional and as appropriate significant others to ensure health needs are met. 
  • To maintain accurate up to date recording systems.
  • Ensure safe storage, monitoring and administration of medication (in line with the college medication policy).
  • To engage and record robust daily handovers and attend weekly team meetings.
  • To develop professional knowledge in response to changing student health care needs.
  • To complete identified daily tasks to support the organisation and running of the college Medical/Wellbeing centre.
  • To be pro active in promoting healthy lifestyles for all students.
