County planners have given the go-ahead for a controversial scheme to build homes in a village near Clehonger.

Herefordshire Council’s planning committee yesterday backed the plans for seven homes on land off Cobhall Common Lane in Cobhall Common despite strong opposition from local residents and the parish council.

Allensmore Parish Council opposed the scale and density of the scheme and raised concerns over road safety and drainage issues.

More than 20 residents objected to the plans over the highways and impact on the village’s character.

They also warned of an increased risk of flooding.

Councillors approved the scheme with 11 votes for it and two abstentions.
