A campaign has been launched to recruit more adult social care workers in Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Cares, an initiative which aims to raise the profile of those working in the local care sector and to recruit more adult social care workers, has been launched by Herefordshire Council.

Cllr Pauline Crockett, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Wellbeing, said: “The county’s older population is set to grow significantly over the next 20 years, and potentially the demand for care and support will grow.

“In order to help us in our mission to ensure that everyone in Herefordshire continues to lead a full, happy and healthy life, we need to attract new care workers to the sector.

“From a personal perspective I chose a caring profession as a career and I was fortunate enough to thoroughly enjoy more than 25 years in the service.

“If you are looking for your next role, and want to make a difference to people’s lives, then working in care could be the rewarding career you have been looking for. Whatever your skills and experience, there’s a variety of roles from administrators to managers, to care assistants to youth workers, and everything in between.

“The adult social care sector is continually evolving with new positions and exciting challenges emerging all the time. If you’d like to grow professionally, there’s never been a better time to consider a career as a care worker, with a variety of job vacancies and fulfilling opportunities available.”

Natalie Shaw, a care support worker at Hillside Care Centre, has worked in the sector for 17 years.

Natalie added: “My Nan was in a care home, and I was inspired by the amazing people who supported her. They gave her dignity and respect and I decided that I wanted to do that for other people. And, hopefully one day, should I need it, there’ll be people out there to do it for me.”

She encourages anyone considering a career in care to go for it.

“No two days are ever the same which I love. You are forever learning new things and meeting new people – it’s a great environment to work in.”
