Leominster Town Council has been quoted more than £6,000 for a new CCTV camera in the town.
The council is considering installing a new camera to cover the central area car park in Burgess Street.
But councillors were taken aback by the quote they received from Herefordshire Council.
They have been quoted £3,507 for the installation of the camera and £2,000 for a 26.2 ft pole.
Maintenance would cost £400 and power around £200 with signage costing £65.
Town clerk Julie Debbage told last night’s town council meeting about quote.
“We’ve talked about possibly getting costs to add a CCTV to the Herefordshire Council system in central car park because there is a bit of a gap in the town,” she said.
“The costs have now come through from the central CCTV office.
“I just wanted to know if this is something we wanted to pursue. We have got most of that in the budget.”
But councillor Jon Preece asked if they could get another quote.
“It seems like a terrific amount of money,” he said.
Ms Debbage said the quote had come from Balfour Beatty Living Places through Herefordshire Council.
“I can ask for another quote and I’ve got several ideas of where we could go,” she said.
Coun Preece said: “If that’s possible, please.
“Don’t get me wrong but I know the price of stuff.
“That’s phenomenal, £2,000 for a pole. That’s a lot of money.”
