It's Our County have retained their Whitecross county council seat after Dave Boulter topped the polls.

Councillor Boulter stood for the by-election which was triggered by his wife Sue’s resignation.

The former Hereford mayor had to stand down a week after the local elections on May 2.

She escorts the special educational needs unit of the school transport service once a week and was unaware that working for the education department disqualified her from being able to stand as a county councillor.

Coun Boulter received 304 votes, more than double than Liberal Democrat Tricia Hales on 141 – Conservative Rob Williams polled 54.

The total voter turnout was very low with only 19.04% of the electorate taking part in the election.

This victory for IOC shores up the new coalition administration they share with the Herefordshire Independents and Green Party. The alliance now holds 28 of the 53 seats.

The Conservative Party and Herefordshire Independents remain the joint largest groups at Shirehall with 13 seats each.

IOC has eight seats, the Liberal Democrats and Greens have seven a piece and the True Independets have five.
