Hereford Civic Society leaders are calling on residents to have their say in the council’s review of transport in the county.

Herefordshire Council says transport is being reviewed to ensure the city has the infrastructure and services needed to meet its current and future travel needs.

The review is considering ways to reduce traffic and improve flow to make it more pleasant to move around Hereford, create attractive well-maintained public areas that support walking and cycling and introduce a high quality, well-connected and low carbon transport system.

The review includes taking into account the views of residents, commuters and businesses through feedback to an on-line questionnaire.

David Fowler, Hereford Civic Society, chairman is calling on residents to have their say and submit views their views to the council.

“With regard to the bypass and southern link road and the eastern bypass that has not been possible as members opinion is fairly evenly divided,” he said.

“These proposed new roads however only form part of the Hereford Transport Package and the South Wye Transport Package consulted on in January 2019.

“Both packages included many measures that encourage walking, cycling, use of public transport particularly for short journeys and these initiatives are supported by a great majority of our membership.

“The questionnaire can be completed any number of times, as answers can be made specific to a particular city and/ or rural location.

“Once the questionnaire is completed, there is the facility to look at other responses (all are reported anonymously) and a mechanism to ‘like’ other people’s comments.”

The questionnaire can be found by logging on the council’s website www.herefordshire.gov.uk/press/article/10128/hereford_transport_strategy_review

The consultation was launched on February 3 and has a deadline of March 31 for responses.
