Holidaymakers could soon be checking in to a disused public toilet block if plans to convert it into a holiday let are approved.
Proposals for the change of use of the former toilets in Eagle Lane, Cleobury Mortimer, have been submitted to Shropshire Council after previous plans to turn it into a residential annex were shelved.
The toilets, which closed in 2011 when new facilities opened in Love Lane, now lie within the grounds of the four-bedroom home Sunny Bank.
The previous owners of Sunny Bank received planning permission in 2018 to convert the block into an annex but work was never started and the property was sold on in March last year.
Its new owners, Christopher Cooney and Jane Davis, have now submitted plans to have it converted into a holiday rental instead, with the addition of a second storey and an outdoor seating area.
A planning statement drawn up by Severn Architects on behalf of Mr Cooney and Ms Davis says: “We are proposing to convert the existing empty property into a small, short-term holiday let, which will provide a kitchen and living space on the ground floor and a single sleeping area with en suite facilities on the first floor.”
The statement says people staying at the holiday let will use the driveway of Sunny Bank for access and parking.
It adds: “The design aims to enhance the top part of Eagle Lane by recognising the local vernacular, architectural styles, context and massing.
“It seeks to maintain some original features that suit the design such as materials and openings whilst introducing other elements that are characteristic but still provide the building with its own unique architectural character.
“The proposal for change of use would also help bring a disused and unloved building back into service.
“Providing short term holiday accommodation would also help support the local economy.”
The application will be decided by Shropshire Council after the consultation period ends on September 4.
