Chris Blumer has a fascinating chat with Brian Ian Muir, one of the most respected sculptors and artists in the film industry, he has been working in film for over 46 years.

In 1968, at the age of 16, he began his 4 year apprenticeship as a sculptor/modeller at Elstree Film Studios.
After completing his apprenticeship, Brian left the film industry. He honed his skills by working on many prestigious commissions in London i.e. Royal Coat of Arms for the Crown Court and plaque for Stock Exchange (unveiled by the Queen).

In 1976 Brian was asked to return to Elstree Studios to work on Star Wars and sculpted the nowinfamous Darth Vader. He also sculpted the Storm Trooper armour, Death Star Droid, CZ 3 and finishing work on C3PO.

During his extensive 46 year career in the film industry Brian has worked on over 70 major movies including Alien and Indiana Jones.

Brian will be appearing at Area 151 in Hereford on March 21st for their huge Comic Con event

Tenbury Wells celebrated a significant milestone in its economic regeneration as Upper Teme Business Park officially opened its doors on Friday 19th October 2025. Stuart Anderson MP cut the ceremonial red tape, marking the launch of this state-of-the-art commercial development. Sunshine Radios Chris Blumer popped along to chat to representatives who attended, and get a feel for this exciting new development.

The new development offers 23 high-specification commercial units, designed to encourage economic growth, innovation, and employment in Tenbury Wells and the surrounding area. The launch was a key moment for the local community, following the announcement of the upcoming closure of Kerry Manufacturing’s factory in February 2026, which had raised concerns about job losses and economic impact.

Owner Amy Butterfield said:
"We are thrilled to officially open Upper Teme Business Park. This launch represents more than just a collection of commercial units – it’s a commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and businesses. We hope this development will help Tenbury Wells flourish by providing high-quality, flexible spaces where businesses can grow and thrive."
Phase 1 of the development, comprising seven lettings, had already been secured prior to the official launch, with tenants moving in and contributing to the area’s economic vitality. Stuart Anderson MP added:
“It was a real pleasure to cut the ribbon at Upper Teme Business Park today. The 23 new units represent a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to grow and for new enterprises to get started. Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of our economy, and developments like this give them the space and support they need to thrive. I look forward to seeing these units fully occupied, creating jobs, boosting our local economy and strengthening our community for years to come. I want to say a huge thank you to Amy and Wayne for their vision and investing in the area.”

Upper Teme Business Park offers versatile units ranging from 750 to 6,250 square feet, providing a prime, gated location for small and medium-sized businesses. Its strategic location just off the A456, combined with a strong commitment to supporting local enterprise, positions the park as a central hub for economic recovery and growth in the region.

The Humble-Bee Gardeners are building their first RHS Malvern Flower Show Garden in partnership with the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust.

The design champions regenerative gardening that aims to create a harmony between use, function, reduced maintenance and habitat creation in a domestic garden.

This is designed to be part of a rural garden surrounded by agricultural land and as an antitheses of the farmed land and monocultures. Soil regeneration is prioritised along with habitat creation, wildlife corridors, edible shrubs and trees for us and nature, productive gardening mixed in with the "formal" border and water recycling and storage.

They hope to challenge peoples image of a garden, particularly with new developments, and contribute to a growth in re-wilding projects domestically, re-establishing habitats and opening up our gardens to let nature and wildlife in to benefit the local environment and ourselves in turn.

Now more than ever, we need to look to ourselves to take control of our own physical and mental well being, recycling of our own waste and growing our own food. The stability and wellbeing that self sufficiency brings is a powerful tool that benefits us and supports our communities, protecting local biodiversity and wildlife for our children's futures.

They are working hard at making this design a reality and would appreciate any and all donations towards material, labour, machinery and transport costs. They know it is a financially difficult time for many and your contributions would mean the world to them if you are able to give. If you are unable to give, your support can be shown by sharing this podcast with others.

They believe firmly that presenting this design to the public will help build awareness of the huge potential within our combined domestic spaces and that the future of gardens can make a huge difference to ourselves, communities and wildlife.

Three national broadcasters with over 150 years’ experience between them will be joining forces to share the highs and lows from their illustrious careers. Jim Rosenthal, Nick Owen and Pat Murphy first worked together 50 years ago on BBC Radio Birmingham and, throughout their stellar careers, have remained firm friends, swapping tales over many a long lunch. Now they’re going to share many of them…..

They have attended many of the world’s most prestigious sporting events – from Ashes battles, Olympics, Rugby and Football World Cups, countless Motor Racing Grand Prix and memorable boxing nights. Nick has also carved out an impressive career in news, current affairs and entertainment, interviewing 7 Prime Ministers and, among others, Paul McCartney, George Michael, Elton John and the Bee Gees, while on the breakfast TV sofa.
The anecdotes from Jim, Nick and Pat aren’t already known from podcasts or autobiographies. They were there when sporting history was being made and their tales are specific to them, freshly-minted, not recycled tales that are now familiar to many audiences.
Jim Rosenthal worked on 153 Grand Prix for ITV Sport, presenting its coverage for over a decade. Also for ITV, he reported and presented on 8 football World Cups and presented 3 Rugby Union World Cups, including England’s historic victory in the Final against Australia in 2003.
For more than a decade, he was ITV’s presenter of their boxing coverage, during a Golden Age of British boxing, featuring the likes of Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and Amir Khan – when TV audiences for live Fights soared past 10 million.
When covering one of Muhammad Ali’s world title fights for BBC Radio, he was actually invited to the great man’s home for dinner!
Nick Owen has just completed 25 years of presenting BBC TV’s Midlands Today. He is now fully restored to health, having successfully overcome prostate cancer, in the process raising greater awareness of the disease with a series of emotional interviews.
After cutting his teeth presenting sport on the old ATV/Central News Programme, Nick was one of the first faces on ITV’s Breakfast Show and within two months had formed an enduring presenting partnership with Anne Diamond, which is widely credited with saving the programme. They worked together for the next four years and then, a decade later, they clocked up 600 live apperarances from BBC Pebble Mill, fronting Good Morning with Anne and Nick.
For ITV Sport, Nick presented the Olympics coverage in 1988 and the Football World Cup from Italy in 1992, as well as commentating during the 1994 World Cup.
He was chairman of Luton Town Football Club for almost a decade, forging a close friendship with an even more famous Luton supporter – Eric Morecambe. In fact Nick’s ringtone on his mobile is the instantly recognisable ‘Give Me Sunshine’, the Morecambe and Wise signature tune.
Pat Murphy is the longest-serving contributor to BBC Radio’s Sports Report on Saturday afternoons, having clocked up more than 40 years on that historic programme, the longest-running radio sports show in the world.
He has written over 40 sports books, including acclaimed biographies of Ian Botham and Brian Clough. Pat has also collaborated on books with the likes of Imran Khan, Viv Richards, Andrew Flintoff, Graham Gooch, Bob Willis and Alec Stewart. His latest book is the Official History of Sports Report.
Pat specialises in reporting on cricket and football – covering the Midlands clubs – and he has been on 18 England tours around the world. He was there when England retained the Ashes in Melbourne in 1986 and regained them in 2005, at the Oval. He also accompanied Ian Botham on many of his charity walks to raise funds for Leukaemia Research and jousted many times in interviews with the legendary Brian Clough.
The format for the evening is simple : three friends over many decades pulling out the plums from their vast experience. Three microphones, three chairs. And, via some roving mics, as many questions as we can take from the audience….

Chris Blumer chats to Award Winning Folk Musician Daoirí Farrell who is performing at the Regal Folk Festival on Tues 16th April.

It’s commonly accepted that Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell is one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years.

A product of Dublin’s famous club An Góilin Traditional Singers, since launching his own solo live career at the 2016 Celtic Connections, Daoirí Farrell has gone from strength to strength. On the verge of releasing his fourth solo album in early 2023, he can boast numerous honours from BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards to ALSR Celtic Music accolades.

He has received endorsements from the likes of Christy Moore (‘Daoirí has assumed the mantle of Luke [Kelly]’), Mark Radcliffe (‘What a voice’) and Dónal Lunny (‘Daoirí is one of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade’), with his music and live performances earning the acclaim of respected publications including MOJO, The Irish Post, Songlines and more.

On stage
Daoirí’s live work sees the 2013 All Ireland Champion Singer touring far and wide, performing regularly at festivals around the globe including in Canada, Australia and Europe. He has also toured the USA as vocalist for Lúnasa, performed in the UK in the line-up of the renowned Transatlantic Sessions and played to a live and TV audience at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

More recently, March 2020 saw him live stream from what he called ‘The Covid Corner’ of his kitchen in Dublin on St. Patrick’s Day. It was followed by an additional twenty-five consecutive weekly online performances, attracting worldwide audiences with over 15,000 views each week and resulted in an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s flagship Today programme.

As well as touring internationally, Daoirí still hones his art with regular unannounced visits to the many sessions across the city of Dublin.

On record
The debut album, ‘The First Turn’, surfaced back in 2009, with his breakthrough album appearing in 2016 with the powerful ‘True Born Irishman’, a set that Songlines called ‘an album that could yet prove to be one of the most significant Irish releases of recent years.’ It went on to win him two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Following 2019’s ‘A Lifetime Of Happiness’, which earned three nominations in the RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards and FATEA’s ‘nothing less than a quintessential Irish folk album’ approval, Daoirí’s long-awaited fourth album, ‘The Wedding Above In Glencree’, was released in late February 2023 and made the RTÉ Radio 2 playlist in Ireland.

Tragedy, ambition, and supernatural intrigue as Verdi's Macbeth takes centre stage in Mid Wales Opera MainStages Tour.

In a thrilling celebration of Shakespearean drama, Mid Wales Opera proudly presents Verdi's Macbeth, transporting audiences into the captivating world of tragedy, ambition, and supernatural intrigue. This powerful operatic rendition brings the timeless tale of the Scottish Play to life in a spellbinding production presented in English and performed in four enthralling acts.

Mid Wales Opera are pleased to announce that all the venues on their MainStages Tour have tickets on sale for their production of Verdi’s Macbeth; the perfect blend of live performance and music for those who love Shakespeare, as well as for those who love opera.

One of Shakespeare’s greatest plays is also one of Verdi’s greatest operas. Experience a gripping tale of power, manipulation and tragic descent as Macbeth, a valiant general, succumbs to his wife’s persuasion, leading to a ruthless quest for the Scottish throne. Verdi’s magnificent score, with its sweeping melodies and intricate harmonies, propels the psychologically thrilling narrative, whilst Act 4 introduces a modern twist with the haunting chorus of refugees. Sung in English, accompanied by Ensemble Cymru and with a large cast, supplemented by community choruses, Mid Wales Opera presents its first-ever production of Verdi’s Macbeth as the culmination of its Shakespeare Season.

The opera features a huge cast of 17 professional singers, led by Canadian baritone Jean-Kristof Bouton as Macbeth, Welsh soprano Mari Wyn Williams as the demonic Lady Macbeth, Welsh tenor Robyn Lyn Evans as Macduff and Welsh bass baritone Emyr Wyn Jones as Banquo. As always, MWO are joined in the pit by the fabulous Ensemble Cymru, performing conductor Jonathan Lyness’s newly created orchestration of the opera. The opera will be performed in the celebrated English singing translation by Jeremy Sams.

Music Director and Conductor Jonathan Lyness expresses his enthusiasm for bringing Verdi's Macbeth to the MainStages Tour: Of Verdi’s three Shakespearean operas, Macbeth is the one that I believe will seriously resonate with all of our audiences today, with its extraordinarily powerful and stirring music and for the remarkably contemporary themes that pervade this timeless drama surrounding a military general’s existential greed for power.

Join Mid Wales Opera on this unforgettable journey into the heart of Shakespearean tragedy as Verdi's Macbeth takes centre stage. The MainStages Tour will commence at Hafren, Newtown, on 2 March 2024, and will continue on to venues in Aberystwyth, Bangor, Wrexham, Newport, Hereford, Llanelli, Milford Haven, and finally arriving in Brecon, on 23 March 2024.

Tickets are available from all venues or via www.midwalesopera.co.uk.

Nick Jones caught up with Frantisek from Humblebee Gardeners and organiser of Pumpkin Fest. Here is a brief summary from Frantisek:

The Humble-Bee Gardeners are returning this year with our Ludlow Pumpkin Fest! Our small local business started this tradition last year in collaboration with Csons Ludlow. This year we are back to keep the new tradition with more days for you to visit, and more fun, food and games. And, of course, our organic pumpkins will be there, waiting for you too. There are already some monsters growing!

Since last year we’ve learnt a lot about growing pumpkins – it’s definitely not as easy as it sounds. We have planted them, hand weeded them (many times) and tended them among the wildflowers (weeds if you must). We have over 30–40 varieties of pumpkins and squashes for you. All are edible and can be used for many different yummy meals, so no waste! We saved a lot of seeds from our pumpkins last year (you can too!) and look forward to seeing all the different varieties.

We have pick your own, family games, pumpkin carving, willow weaving demonstrations, produce stalls, some music and yummy food, hot and cold!

We then open on Saturdays and Sundays 14th & 15th, 21st & 22nd, 28th & 29th October and on Tuesday 31st October, with Halloween atmosphere. Admission this year is £5 per adult and £3 per child over 3 years. Under 3s go free. Entry includes one pumpkin per person.

We look forward to welcoming you back to celebrate the season and have a wholesome, fun day out! We will also be open during the week by appointment for groups for pick your own. To book this, contact us at grow@humblebeegardeners.co.uk or by phone on 07534 148 428. You can find us at Hill Head Field, Woodstock Lane End, Brimfield, SY8 4NY. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Ludlow Motors is a family-owned business proud to have served motorists in Shropshire and the West Midlands for just over 70 years. As it celebrates this milestone, we sent Sunshine Radios Nick Jones into the showroom to chat all about its history and what to expect going forward.

The business was first founded by Mr Derrick Grieveson in Worcester in 1953 and operated under the name of Worcester Carsales. The dealership moved in 1963 to a new site in Hylton Road, Worcester, and 1973 saw Mr Grieveson’s son and current Managing Director, Mr Stuart Grieveson, join the family company. In the last 25 years the company has acquired many new car franchised dealerships in the West Midlands.

During 70 years of trading, the family-run business has seen three generations of the Grieveson family enjoying working for the firm, and to date, four of Mr Grieveson’s grandchildren work within the group. It is a wonderful story and unique in this day and age. Long may it continue.

Chris Blumer chats to Author Jeff Collins about his book ‘Rock Legends At Rockfield’ - In summary the book is your backstage pass to the world-famous Rockfield Recording Studios in Monmouth, Wales. Featuring frank and funny interviews with the artists who recorded there and studio staff, Rock Legends at Rockfield reveals the fascinating stories behind some of the world’s best-known and loved rock albums and records, including Oasis’s What’s the Story (Morning Glory), a number of Queen songs including Killer Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody, and Motörhead’s first recordings.

This new edition will be fully revised and updated with new chapters on the artists who have recorded at Rockfield since 2007, including new interviews with bands such as Thunder, The Dirty Youth, Gun and YES; the Studios’ recent appearances in film and television such as the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody film and the Rockfield: the Studio on the Farm documentary; and a section on Rockfield’s neighbouring rehearsal studio, Monnow Valley, which later became a recording studio in its own right and has hosted bands such as Black Sabbath. A must-read for anyone interested in rock music and music history.
