Leominster restaurant fined for repeated fly tipping

A Leominster restaurant has been fined for prolific fly tipping.

Milano Restaurant Limited (trading as Milano Restaurant of 10 High Street Leominster) pleaded guilty to 5 fly tipping charges following a case taken to Hereford Magistrates Court by Herefordshire Council’s Community Protection Team.

Milano Restaurant limited received fines and costs totalling £13,173.

Several instances of fly tipping of commercial waste in the alleyway between the High Street and Corn Square, Leominster, were reported to Herefordshire council in February 2017.

Paperwork found in the waste showed that it was from the Milano Restaurant.

Despite immediate Enforcement action taking place, the company continued to fly tip waste from the restaurant on five separate occasions up to August 2017.

Marc Willimont, Head of Regulatory & Development Management Services, said: “All businesses must ensure they dispose of their waste legally, by having an appropriate duty of care measure in place so the waste they produce is disposed of correctly. Businesses must also have documentation to show who they have transferred the waste to and keep those records for at least two years.
Clearing up fly tipping costs the tax payer huge amounts of money. This result is a warning to other businesses who look to avoid paying for proper disposal of their waste.”
