Westfields recorded a fine 3-1 home win over visiting Longlevens in the rearranged Hellenic League Premier Division game at allpay.park last night.

They played the match which was originally abandoned due to the Sam Hunt injury and went onto repeat the performance from a month ago.

Westfields were held to a goal-less first half with both defences on top and in particular Sam Rawlings who was outstanding at the heart of the Westfields defence.

After the break Westfields made an immediate impact when leading goal scorer Josh Hunt headed them in front with only a minute on the clock from a picture-book cross.

Westfields then had to defend well as Longlevens came back in search of an equaliser and twice Rawlings got in important tackles to thwart the visitors and then Ian Havard punched clear a dangerous cross whilst under pressure.

Westfields then effectively killed the game with 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes in the 75th and 78th minute when dangerman Dan Stoneman fired home from just inside the penalty area a low shot into the far corner of the net and then 3 minutes later Stoneman turned provider when he burst down the right wing and put over a tremendous cross which Hunt headed home into the bottom corner to give Westfields a commanding 3-0 lead.

This really killed any impact from the visitors although they did come back and get a late consolation goal through Brad Martin in the last minute.

Westfields now travel on Saturday to Thornbury in an Hellenic League Premier Division game and the following Saturday open up their FA Vase competition with an away trip to Coventry United who ironically knocked them out of this year’s FA Cup competition.

Westfields’ next game in Hereford will be a visit to Edgar Street on Tuesday 23rd November when they play Hereford FC in the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
