Vigil to remember those lost during pandemic

A vigil will be held in Hereford next week to remember those lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The vigil will take place in the grounds of Hereford Cathedral at 11am to commemorate the National Day of Reflection on March 23rd.

It is a day that has been set aside to reflect and remember those who have been lost during the pandemic, whether it's due to Covid or the result of diagnosis or treatment being delayed as well as not being able to grieve them properly.

Emma Lewis from Covid-19 families Hereford said the event will include a minutes silence at noon.

"We will have speakers, prayers and a choir as well as reading a list of those we have been lost locally to Covid-19 either directly or indirectly due to delays in diagnosis or treatment, as well as those we have not been able to mourn together due to restrictions."

"We are asking people who attend to wear some item of yellow and to carry an A4 photo of those they have lost. If people are not able to attend the service, we are encouraging people to wear yellow to work and to take a moment at noon to reflector to attend the vigil virtually."

"We are hoping people will hold their own doorstep candle lit vigils at 8pm as well as decorating their gardens and homes with yellow ribbons and hearts."

Local landmarks such as Hereford Town Hall are set to be illuminated yellow in the evening.
