GPs and health and care partners in Herefordshire gathered last week to meet with NHS England's top boss for primary care to discuss opportunities and challenges across health and care services in the county.

Dominic Hardy, NHS England Director for Primary Care and Transformation visited the county and was hosted by the county's GP Federation, Taurus Healthcare Ltd. a federation of all GP practices supporting countywide delivery of GP services, along with other Herefordshire Health and care partner organisations.

Dr Mike Hearne, GP and Medical Director at Taurus Healthcare Ltd said: 'It was a really positive day, where we were able to have good local discussion on how services for patients in Herefordshire are being transformed to meet the needs of a rural county.

'Mr Hardy was given an overview of how healthcare services in the county are becoming more focussed around partnership networks to provide health and care services for the future based around local populations.

'We also looked at how we can further integrate our out-of-hours, evening and weekend hubs and day-to-day activities into 24 hour General Practice.'

Dr Ian Tait, GP and Clinical Chair for NHS Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group said: "The day gave an exciting focus on how frontline health and care services can improve their collaboration to support the needs of individuals and carers as well as their communities. The clear need for quality and access was balanced by a welcome recognition that one size does not fit all and a diversity of approach was needed in Herefordshire as much as more widely across The NHS at a national level."

'This will put us in a good place locally to achieve the aims outlined in the recent publication of the NHS Long Term Plan around boundaries disappearing between services in healthcare, social care, voluntary and wider community. https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-term-plan/
