A 34-year-old man from Ebbw Vale has been sentenced to a total of 18 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to numerous theft offences.

He appeared at Newport Magistrates Court last Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop and three counts of handling stolen goods.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for the offences which took place in Tredegar, and an additional two weeks for breaching licence conditions.

Officer in charge of the case, PC Rees, said: “Shoplifting sprees like this can cause many businesses and their owners distress, as well as financial loss, which is why we’re committed to pursuing offenders, bringing them to justice and making our highstreets safer.

“As we head into the winter months, and with the festive period just around the corner, I hope this news goes some way in reassuring those in Tredegar that theft will not be tolerated in Gwent.”
