A community-focused gym has marked its fifth anniversary by holding an open day to launch a new fitness programme.

Ludus Gym, at Singleton Court in Monmouth, held free classes on Saturday (29 October) for local residents to showcase CrossFit.

It is the town’s first CrossFit gym – an inclusive sport that benefits all age groups and demographics by achieving happiness, health and strength through physical fitness and a large emphasis on teamwork and community.

Among those who attended was David Davies MP, who took part in an Olympic weightlifting session with British weightlifting coach Charlie McCloy.

“Keeping fit physically goes hand in hand with mental health and while there is plenty of science behind that, anyone who does a bit of exercise will instinctively know it to be true,” said Mr Davies.

“I try to work out every day. It does get hard to find the motivation at times, and I am not as young these days, but even 20 minutes can make a huge difference.

“Thank you to Ludus Gym for inviting me to attend and I am sure CrossFit is going to be very popular with members."

Tom Burns, Ludus Gym- CrossFit Monmouth owner, said: “We decided to run a free open day to launch CrossFit in the local community of Monmouth, which involved free classes from 7am through to midday.

“We wanted to show people how through exercise you can build positive daily habits to improve your physical and mental health and most importantly have fun in the process.

“CrossFit is for everyone! It is commonplace at Ludus Gym for a group to involve members in their 20s and 70s all training hard together towards the goal of improving themselves by one per cent every session. No matter where someone starts their CrossFit journey, our coaches will help to build each member at their own pace to their best version of themselves.

"I would personally like to thank everyone who attended the open day for giving 100 per cent during each class. Also, a big thank you to the team of amazing members we have at Ludus Gym. They all make it not just a gym but a fun community."
